Andrew Steckner is the 2019-2020 Central Region Venturing Area 4 President. Andrew is a member of Crew 662 in Lake Erie Council. He is an Eagle Scout, and a recipient of the William T. Hornaday Badge. Andrew is NAYLE trained, and previously served as the president of his crew and Vice President of Administration for Lake Erie Council. He also promotes International Scouting opportunities by serving on his council’s International Scouting Committee. Andrew looks forward to increasing Area 4’s direct support and engagement with each Council VOA during his term.
Lilah Shernit is the 2019-2020 Central Region Venturing Area 4 Vice President of
Administration. Lilah is currently the VP of Communications of Crew 25 in Buckeye Council and is a member of Troop 111 in North Canton. She previously served as the VP of Communications for her councils VOA and was awarded a Council VLA in May 2018. She is also a member of NYLT staff and will be the SPL for Buckeye Council’s July course this summer. She spends her summers at Seven Ranges Scout Reservation and is beginning her third year on staff in June.
Rylee Clift is the 2019-2020 Central Region Venturing Area 4 Vice President of Program. Rylee is entering her second year at Ohio State University majoring in Forestry Fisheries and Wildlife with a focus in Forest and Wildlife Management, she’s a member of crew 47 in Simon Kenton Council. She has earned the Pathfinder award and completed NAYLE last year at the Summit. Rylee has served on True North NYLT Staff for three years as a Troop Guide , office staff member and Head of Office Staff. She will be serving on NAYLE Staff at Philmont this summer as a Crew Guide.
Kylee Alofaituli is the 2019-2020 Central Region Venturing Area 4 Vice President of Communications. Kylee is currently the VOA Vice President of Program for the Lake Erie Council as well as the SPL of Troop 700 and a founding member as well as current president of Crew 252. She also recently joined Crew 2120. She has earned the Discovery award and was recently inducted into the Order of the Arrow. She spends her time staffing various leadership courses throughout her council.
Jonathan Golden is a 2019-2020 Area 4 Committee Member for Communications. Jonathan is also serving as the Order of the Arrow Section C-4 Vice Chief for this year. He has been in Scouting since joining Cub Scouts in 2009, where he started as a Tiger and then received his Arrow of Light, he earned Eagle at age 14, and joined Venturing shortly after. He recently served Area 4 as the Vice President of Program, and even served his Venturing crew as president for Ohio River Valley Council. In addition, he served various roles within the Order of the Arrow including being the Communications Coordinator for Section C-4 in 2018. He has also participated within National Leadership Seminar (NLS), Area Leadership Training Seminar (ALTC), Wilderness First Aid, and even staffed OA Forum. In his past summers he also served on camp staff for Fort Steuben Scout Reservation (FSSR) working with the first-year camper program.
Steve Garner is the Central Region Area 4 Venturing Advisor. He was previously the Area 4 Associate Advisor for Training. Steve has been directly involved in Venturing since 2014, but his Scouting in northeast Ohio stretches back over twenty years in the legacy Greater Cleveland Council (GCC), and had been involved in Scouting periodically since his childhood as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout in the Miami Valley Council (Dayton, OH). Steve holds a Bachelor and Master of Commissioner Science. He has been a faculty member for six Commissioner College events. He served as a faculty member for six GCC Baden-Powell Institute training events. Steve is Wood Badge trained and served on Wood Badge staff. He served as Assistant Scoutmaster for five GCC NYLT courses and in 2018 was the NYLT Course Director for first official Lake Erie Council NYLT course event (two Troops simultaneously). Steve has served as a member of the Lake Erie Council Field Service Reorganization Task Force since June 2017. He has focused early on the proposed structure of the LEC Venturing Division, as well as the structures of the LEC Cub Scouting Division and the LEC Scouts BSA Division. He holds the Cubmaster Award, the Cub Scouter Award, the Scouter’s Key Award, the Scout Leader’s Training Award, the Silver Beaver Award, and the Venturing Leadership Award (Area).
Elena Mazur is the Central Region Area 4 Associate Advisor for Administration. She was previously Area 4’s Vice President of Program for the 2016-2017 term. She previously served on Greater Cleveland’s Council VOA as Vice President of Program for the 2013-2014 term. She has also devoted 5 years of her time to serve on staff for her council’s NYLT course. Along with NYLT she also attended NAYLE in 2017 at Philmont Scout Ranch to learn and further her leadership abilities. This summer she will be devoting her time to being Assistant Health Director for Beaumont Scout Reservation in Ashtabula, OH.
Matt Blackwood is the Central Region Area 4 Associate Advisor for Program. He has been involved in Venturing for just over 3 years, but his experience in Scouting goes back nearly 35 years. He is an Eagle Scout and the Advisor to Crew 64 in Charleston, WV. For the last eight years he has been the Webelos Den Leader (Pack 64) and for the last 4 years he has been the Scoutmaster of Troop 64. He is a Venturing trainer and has advised Buckskin Council on Venturing training and programming events. He previously served as the VOA Advisor for the Elk River District VOA (Buckskin Council). At present, he is the VOA Advisor for Buckskin Council. He has been awarded the Scoutmaster’s Award of Merit, the District Award of Merit, the Silver Beaver and the Council Venturing Leadership Award. He is Wood Badge trained and has served as Senior Patrol Leader for Wood Badge. He worked on staff of NLYT and for 18 years was on staff at Brownsea 22 Leadership Camp. In addition, he served as one of the the leaders for the Buckskin Council contingent attending the inaugural National Jamboree at the Summit Bechtel Reserve.
